A 10 Gbps line between Guwahati and Aizawl is being laid and expected to be completed by this month to enhance internet service in Mizoram, BSNL Chief General Manager North East-I Circle Kamal Kumar Saxena said. During a meeting with Chief Minister Lal Thanhawla, Saxena said once the 10 Gbps line is completed, Mizoram could be connected with the submarine cable line. Three lines to enhance internet connectivity would soon connect Aizawl and Shillong, he said, adding that efforts were being made to erect more towers and improve functions of the existing towers to minimize call drops.

BSNL has also devised a master plan for a 200 Gbps Super Highway, the state-of-the-art optical fiber cable to connect Guwahati to several places parallel during this financial year. An intermediate plan was also in place to provide incremental growth broadband services to BSNL customers, especially to public utility services such as SBI and other government and non government organizations catering to the needs of the people, BSNL Chief General Manager M K Seth said.

BSNL may also launch its 4G services during the next financial year, based on the outcome of a tender to upgrade its network for such services, Lok Sabha was informed. However, the telecom PSU does not intend to participate in the upcoming spectrum auctions for 4G due to financial and other reasons, Minister of State for Communications Manoj Sinha said in a written reply.
