Blackberry Z10 vs. Samsung Galaxy S III: Specs Compared
The Samsung Galaxy S III$99.99 at Let's Talk is one of the most popular Android smartphones across all carriers. The Blackberry Z10 is RIM's newest and most advanced Blackberry smartphone. A head-to-head matchup seems natural, especially after we pitted the Blackberry Z10 against the Apple iPhone 5 $699.99 at Best Buy (and, months ago, pitted the Galaxy S III and iPhone 5 against each other). Let's look at how Blackberry's new smartphone and one of the most popular Android smartphones square off.
Placed next to each other, the Galaxy S III is clearly the bigger phone, a full 0.3 inches longer and 0.2 inches wider. However, it's a hair thinner and just a tenth of an ounce heavier. The Galaxy S III has a much larger 4.8-inch screen to the Z10's 4.2-inch screen, but they have nearly identical resolutions, making the Z10 appear slightly sharper in terms of pixel density.
On paper, they're nearly the same phone. They have identical cameras, identical dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chips, and nearly identical storage capacities and prices (the Galaxy S III has a 32GB version for $50 more, but both phones can be expanded with microSD cards anyway). The two phones also have the same 802.11b/a/g/n 2.4 GHz/5 GHz, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, and near-field communication support. They even have nearly identical battery life; in our tests, the Z10's 1,800 mAh battery lasted 10 hours and 54 minutes of talk time, while the Galaxy S III's 2,100 mAh battery lasted 10 hours and 43 minutes.
The big difference, of course, is the Z10's use of Blackberry 10 versus the Galaxy S III's use of Android 4.1 "Jelly Bean." Blackberry has been around for years, but Blackberry 10 is very new and has a fraction of the apps available on Google Play. Blackberry 10 has a lot of promise, but we'll have to see how it develops as a modern smartphone OS and whether its ecosystem can grow to compare with the Google Play or iTunes App stores.
