BJP launches 'Raksha' app for women's safety

The application, that can be used on all android mobile phones, was launched by party general secretary Jagat Prakash Nadda who hoped it will help reduce crimes against women.

BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi, who claims to have conceptualised the application, said women after downloading 'Raksha' app on their phones can with a press of button alert their close ones about their whereabouts in case of emergency.

"Your selected contacts can see your location and you can even ask them to show theirs. A distress signal just by pressing a single key sends out a loud buzzer to your near and dear ones," she said.

Lekhi said Indian women are a symbol of power and knowledge and all they need is a secure environment to grow. "In recognition of our cultural ethos, BJP has decided to launch this application as a step towards women's safety and security named as Raksha," she said.

Lekhi said even if the Rakhsa app is switched off, it can send signals of distress by pressing the volume key for three seconds to specific contacts you have chosen beforehand, besides sending your exact whereabouts.
