Bollywood mega star Shah Rukh Khan is all set to add to his portfolio of sporting franchises.
According to a report in the Times of India, King Khan is in talks with Indian Super League (ISL) to acquire a Kolkata-based franchise.
The ISL is likely to have 10 teams in 2017. Hence Khan, who is already a co-owner of IPL and CPL franchises, will have the opportunity to invest in a team.
The TOI report claims that the 50-year-old is only willing to invest in a Kolkata-based team and East Bengal seems to be his preferred choice.
Bengaluru FC are likely to be one of the teams moving from the I-League to ISL, while Mohun Bagan and East Bengal will have to forge some arrangement to grab the remaining spot.
There is a possibility of Atletico de Kolkata and Mohun Bagan coming together, which could pave the way for East Bengal to become the second new ISL team.
Indian football fans will remember that SRK came fairly close in picking up a stake in Dempo SC in 2012. Despite several rounds of talks between chairman Shrinivas Dempo and the actor, a deal could not be reached.
SRK's foray into Indian football is definitely good news for fans. Let's just hope he becomes second time lucky.
