He might not come across as the most assertive or menacing of pace bowlers with ball in hand, but his teammates know that Bhuvneshwar Kumar is not a man to be messed with at least not while they are in the Caribbean. For, he'll be the one pulling them up whenever they slip and fail to keep up with new coach Anil Kumble’s strict disciplinary regime. On Saturday, the slight swing bowler revealed that he was the chairman of the three-member Fine Committee that includes Cheteshwar Pujara and Shikhar Dhawan.

It’s a committee that Kumble will look to for enforcing the many rules that he’s put in place, a $50 fine for coming late for the Indian team bus being one, to keep his boys on their toes. And Kumar was happy to report that there had been no slackers yet during the first 10 days of the tour.

In his first meeting in the Caribbean, Kumble had tried to streamline the role of the support staff. And Kumar explained that he'd done the same even with the different roles that the three members of the committee will serve over the next month-and-a-half during the four-Test tour of the West Indies.

“It’s mostly related to punctuality. Some rules are there — if you are not on time for something, then you have to give a fine. I’m the chairman, Cheteshwar Pujara will collect the fines, and Shikhar (Dhawan) will take the appeals of those who feel they’ve been fined wrongly,” he said.

Kumar also spoke about how the fines if collected will be used for a good cause.
