We're nearing the end of March, and if you're thinking of buying a new phone without spending a huge amount of money, you're in luck because there are plenty of good options in the market right now. We found some great phones priced under Rs. 15,000 that have released in the last six months or so.
Here are our picks for best smartphone under Rs. 15,000 available in India right now, in no particular order. Please note that we've restricted ourselves to devices we've reviewed here at Gadgets 360 - if your favourite device isn't listed here, it's because it didn't make the release date cut off or because we haven't received a review unit yet.
1. Xiaomi Redmi Note 3
Launched in November, the phone is still one of the top rated devices under Rs. 15,000 and comes with a 5.5-inch full-HD screen. It has a 1.4GHz hexa-core Qualcomm processor, 2GB of RAM, and 16GB of storage. We liked the display and battery life, though the camera could have been better.
2. Lenovo Vibe S1
The Vibe S1 has a 5-inch full-HD screen, a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 8-megapixel front shooter for selfies. It has a 1.7GHz octa-core MediaTek MT6752 processor and it comes with 3GB of RAM. The phone packs 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 128GB via a microSD card. The phone has great display and build quality, though the battery life is a little disappointing.
3. Gionee Marathon M5 Lite
This 5-inch phone gets its name for the long battery life it promises, and on that front, it definitely delivers. It's also a good looking phone with a sturdy build, although it's a little heavy, thanks to the bigger battery.
4. Motorola Moto G Gen 3
The oldest phone on the list, the Moto G (Gen 3) nonetheless remains popular and with good reason. Powered by 1.4GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor, it comes with 1GB of RAM. The phone packs 8GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 32GB via a microSD card. The phone has IPX7 water resistance, gives you stock Android, and has proven itself to be extremely reliable.
5. Lenovo Vibe K4 Note
Launched in January, this 5.5-inch phone comes with a full HD display, and packs a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies. It also has a fingerprint sensor that is quick and accurate, and the phone is VR-ready, with a split-screen mode for all apps so even non-VR apps can be used with a headset.
6. Asus Zenfone Max
This 5.5-inch phone has a bigger and a smaller cousin, with slightly different specifications and prices, but in our review, we liked this variant for its looks and build quality, and the quick and accurate autofocus. The camera performance was good in closed environments, though it is only average is more roomy spaces, and the overall performance could be better.
7. LeEco Le 1s
Launched in October 2015, this phone runs Android 5.0 and is powered by a 3000mAh non removable battery. The Le 1s packs a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 5-megapixel front shooter for selfies. It's a great looking phone with strong performance, and a display and speaker were quite nice too. The software needs more polish, and the camera and battery could be better, but it's a good phone, overall.
8. Intex Aqua GenX
Launched in December, this 5.5-inch phone comes with a full-HD display, a 1.3GHz octa-core CPU, and 3GB of RAM. The performance is decent, though the camera performance is average, and the phone heats up a little. But the design and build quality are excellent, and the display is pretty good too.
9. Acer Liquid Z630s
This dual-SIM smartphone also packs a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM, along with two 8-megapixel cameras, one on the front and one on the back. It's a selfie-lover's delight, though the rear camera performance is only average. Battery life is good and the phone is well built, packs a lot of useful software features, and comes with 32GB of internal storage, a big plus at this budget.
10. Micromax Canvas 5
The Canvas 5 has a 5.2-inch full-HD display, along with a 1.3GHz quad-core processor and 3GB of RAM, and a 13-megapixel rear camera paired with a 5-megapixel front camera. The 2900mAh battery is non-removable, and the battery life on the phone is one of its few downsides, as it the fact that it takes a long time to charge fully. However, the display is really crisp, the camera is good particularly for close-ups, and the overall performance is pretty good too.
