Bermuda coach David Moore believes the upcoming ICC Americas Division 1 to be played at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, USA from 17-24 July, will provide his side the best opportunity to test themselves against top Associate teams at the highest level.
"It will give us the opportunity to play cricket at the highest level and test ourselves against the best Associate teams in the world. It also gives Bermuda a realistic opportunity to play in the ICC World T20 2012. We really want to win the tournament. A qualifying position is vital," said Moore.
The Bermuda coach also lauded the ICC for laying out a structured World Twenty20 qualification pathway for all the Associate and Affiliate teams.
"In any development or elite programme it is vital to have a well laid out structure," said Moore.
Also a former West Indies coach, Moore believed that spin will play a crucial part in the tournament. "We expect that the ball will spin from day one. The stadium is of international quality, so I expect the ball will run well in the outfield," opined Moore.
Bermuda side has prepared well for the tournament, according to Moore. "We prepared very well for the WCL Division 2 in the off season with an intensive winter programme and a tour to Dubai. We also had a National Team play off series with the best 28 players in Bermuda playing against each other for places in the team," informed Moore.
It is this preparation that makes Moore confident of his side going through to the next stage. "We never take anything for granted, as the shorter the game the more unpredictable the result. However to must be confident that we have the ability to progress to the next level or we shouldn't be at the tournament," added Moore.
According to Moore, Bermuda's best performance at the international was at the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007. Now he believes the side has the personnel to do well yet again and make it to the ICC World T20 2012.
"All players are key to our success. The Individuals in the team, although some outstanding, only make up the sum of the whole. We have a lot of new team members that will be relatively inexperienced so all senior players will be required to provide leadership throughout the tournament," said Moore.
The Bermuda coach is also expecting a few upsets in the tournament considering the unpredictable nature of the Twenty20 format and picked out the sides to watch out for apart from his own.
"All teams in this competition will be very difficult as the T20 format is very unpredictable. There will be definitely upsets in this tournament . Argentina and Cayman Islands have powerful players that can change a game. We have to respect everyone," concluded Moore.
