Guwahati, May 27: Holders Bengal set up a summit clash with former champions Manipur after they edged past fighting Railways by a lone goal in the second semifinal of the National Football Championship for Santosh Trophy here today.

East Bengal's Budhiram Tudu was the match winner.

After a fluid performance in the quarterfinals record times winners Bengal came all guns blazing and took the control of the match right from the outset.

Budhiram Tudu and Branco Cardozo combined well upfront with former netting the winner for the Shabbir Ali-coached side.

Railways, who grabbed all the attentions with a perfect record in the quarterfinal failed to find their foot and had their back against the wall throughout the match.

Bengal started on aggressive note and made numerous inroads in their opponent citadel and their hard work was paid off when Budhiram Tudu’s shot from the top of the 18 yard box in the 38th minute found the back of the net. Snehasish Dutta essayed a pass to the former East Bengal striker to do the rest.

Railways goalkeeper Satish Kumar was put to test on numerous occasions by the East Bengal’s strikers and midfielders, while the back four too had a tough day at the office.

After the break, Railways did show some urgency to level the terms but lacked combination and finishing, while Bengal held to their one goal advantage and deservedly came out winners.

Bengal will now play Manipur in the final on May 30.

This was Bengal straight move to the final for second consecutive time under Sabbir Ali as they beat Punjab 2-1 in the final in the last edition and winning the trophy after a gap of 11 years.
