India is all set to play its milestone 500th Test cricket match against New Zealand later this month. And to decide India’s Dream Team, BCCI needs your help.

The Indian cricket team is ready to reach a milestone, where it is set to play the 500th Test cricket match. The first Test match of the New Zealand tour of India to be played at Kanpur from September 22 will be Team India’s milestone Test match. And to involve the cricket fans in India in the prepping up of the big test match, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has now launched an interesting fan engagement initiative where it is running a poll on Facebook to seek public opinion on which all cricketers should play in the Indian Dream Team for the big match.

On Indian Cricket Team’s official Facebook page, the board has run polls with a choice of four to five cricketers, and each poll is for a different Batsman number. Up till now, the page has rolled out six polls, seeking votes for player at the one, two, three, four, five and six batting positions. And the best part of the Dream Team is that the board is bringing back all the cricketing legends in the team, with players like Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Sanjay Manjrekar, VVS Laxman, Mohinder Amarnath and Rahul Dravid being on the poll.

Talking about the initiative, BCCI president Anurag Thakur told Press Trust of India, “I have always believed that the heart of the game lies with its fans and what better way to celebrate the historic moment of 500th Test match by giving the fans a chance to vote for their ‘Dream Team’. I am pleased that over 100,000 cricket fans have already voted to pick their top-order in the ‘Dream Team’ and I expect that number to grow manifolds in coming days.”

The BCCI secretary Ajay Shirke added, “This is a great campaign for the Indian cricket fans to come together and pick their favorite players in their team. We are expecting our fans to give a healthy competition to the legends of the game in their Dream Team.”
In a similar initiative to involve the public into decision making, Indian Rail Ministry conducted a nationwide poll to gather the opinion of public on the new uniforms of the Railways staff. On September 14, the Ministry of Railways’ official page on Facebook uploaded a bunch of images with different options for the new staff uniforms. From the looks of it, Indian Railways is entirely revamping the look of the department staff working at the stations and on the train. The design options included uniform suggestion for chief catering in-charge, in-charge of the AC coach, locomotive driver, coolie, chief ticketing examiner, station manager and reservation supervisor among others. Running opinion polls on social media platforms is a very interesting and quick way of knowing what the public or the audience wants.
