Ban Srinivasan, scrap CSK; Dhoni involved in the cover-up: Lalit Modi
Lashing out at the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) establishment after the Supreme Court-instituted committee on Monday ruled that Gurunath Meiyappan was the CSK Team Principal & involved in betting activities during the IPL, banned former IPL Commissioner Lalit Modi told CNN-IBN that the current India & CSK captain MS Dhoni was also part of the cover-up and that CSK should be scrapped following the betting & fixing revelations during IPL 6 last year.
"Dhoni is also involved in the cover-up," Modi said during an interview with CNN-IBN from London on Monday.
Modi also fired a salvo at BCCI President & CSK owner N Srinivasan for the "mess" created by him in the IPL. "Nothing moves in IPL and Chennai Super Kings without Srinivasan, and he has his men planted in every franchisee. Srinivasan has gagged every player, every BCCI official", he added.
With the Supreme Court-instituted Justice Mudgal committee indicting Meiyappan in the IPL betting and spot-fixing scandal, the event's sacked commissioner, who has also been life-banned by the BCCI, demanded a life ban on Srinivasan as well from being involved with any sport.
"Srinivasan has brought disrepute to the game; he should be banned from entering any sport and it's high time this man is banned from the BCCI."
Srinivasan had defended his son-in-law Meiyappan when the latter was arrested last year, calling him merely a "cricket enthusiast".
"Glad to see that Justice Mudgal report confirms just what I had been saying. Life ban on all connected is a must," Modi said.
Earlier in the day Modi had tweeted, "Now it's time for cricket establishment to wake up and bury the entire India Cements team that has taken over global cricket".
Meiyappan, formerly the Team Principal of the CSK, was indicted for betting by a three-member commitee headed by Former Punjab and Haryana Chief Justice Mukul Mudgal, which was appointed by the Supreme Court to investigate the IPL spot-fixing scandal.
Modi's lawyer Mehmud Abdi echoed his client's sentiments. "For CSK team to under perform, it would have required direct involvement of CSK boss N Srinivasan as most of the players in CSK are employees of India Cements and under direct influence and control of Srinivasan who can also make or break their career in BCCI itself," he said.
The ghost of IPL scandal is back, says Rajdeep Sardesai
