For Bajaj, Chetak is one such brand that has done wonders for the company in the past. The popularity of the geared scooter had been immense and it is still remembered as one of the most iconic two-wheelers India has ever produced. Finally, a good news has surfaced for all who would love to see the Chetak making a comeback in the Indian two-wheeler market.
After much speculation about Bajaj Auto reviving its legendary Chetak scooter and bringing it back to India, there is finally something concrete on the basis of which we can say that the launch of the Chetak is nearing. A leading publication has reported that the Pune-based manufacturer has plans to bring back the Chetak scooter in the Indian market, keeping in mind the increasing popularity of automatic scooters here.
Talking of mechanicals, the time is not right to comment anything but we expect that the engine in the new upcoming Bajaj Chetak will come with displacement between 110cc and 150cc. From the looks of what the current market scenario is, Bajaj is most likely to being the 2017 Chetak with an automatic transmission to take on the likes of leaders like Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter.
Coming to the body styling, the 2017 Bajaj Chetak is expected to come with a retro modern appeal that you will find on a typical Vespa or a Yamaha Fascino. As per the images issued by another publication, the 2017 Bajaj Chetak will miss out on telescopic forks up front and the front drum brake. However, since the final production model is a bit far away from reality, we can safely assume that Bajaj will add up these elements to its scooter to enhance its desirability quotient.
Also, the instrument console might be a mix of digital-analogue units and the new Chetak is likely to boast multiple interesting features. Mr Rajiv Bajaj had earlier confirmed that the company will make a re-entry into the scooter segment when the time is right. With the Activa churning out majestic numbers and accounting total monthly sales of over 2.5 lakh units, we believe that it is high time that Bajaj should bring its premium offering for which most of us are waiting in anticipation.
