After five long years, Bajaj Auto, India's second largest two-wheeler manufacturer, has given its only cruiser bike the much needed upgrade by launching the Avenger at Rs 84,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
The Pune-based manufacturer today launched three variants of the Avenger - Cruise 220, Street 220 and Street 150 - to cater to cruise biking enthusiasts. The Street 150 is priced at Rs 75,000 (ex-showroom, Delhi).
This would be Bajaj's seventh launch in 2015 and fifth launch this financial year. It had earlier launched three Pulsars, one Discover, Platina and CT100 models.
Unlike a regular motorcycle, a cruiser is associated with long distance, relaxed biking experience. This concept was first promoted by world's largest cruiser bike manufacturer Harley-Davidson.
The new Avenger will sport a new high grip handlebar, which is akin to traditional cruisers. It will also get a re-styled instrument cluster and body graphics. Two of the variants will have 220cc engine.
While 220 Cruise variant will have traditional spoke wheels with lots of chrome finish, the 220 Street variant gets jet black alloy wheels on the lines of the in-demand Harley-Davidson Street 750.
The 220 series will deliver 19ps of peak power and a torque of 17.5 nm. The bikes come with oil cooler. The 150 version has a peak power of 14.5ps and a torque of 12.5nm.
Like its predecessors, the new Avenger will have very little competition as two-wheeler makers continue to focus on regular commuter or high performance bikes. Its only closest rival remains the Royal Enfield series of motorcycles that have bigger engines and are more expensive.
