RIO DE JANEIRO: Jamaican sprint
legend Usain Bolt insisted Friday his
sights were set on an unprecedented
"triple-triple" at next year's Rio
Olympics, with a new world record in
the 200m also a major goal.
"The 200m (world record) is
definitely on the 'to-do list' for me,
so I'm really focused on getting that
done," Bolt told rio2016.com.

BAMBOLIM (Goa): Haryana's Ashish
Jakhar set a national youth record in
boys' hammer throw on the second
day of the 12th National Youth
Athletics Championships here on
Friday.

BEIJING: The IAAF awarded the 2021
world athletics championships to
Eugene, Oregon, on Thursday, the
first time the event will be held in
the United States.
The IAAF said the decision, which
bypassed the usual bidding process,
was driven by the popularity of track
and field in the American market.
It said the financial support offered
by the governor of Oregon and the
United States Olympic Committee, as
well as NBC's commitment to
produce and broadcast the event,
led to the decision.

MUMBAI: International Olympic
Committee president Thomas Bach is
baffled by India's lack of sporting
success and will meet the country's
Prime Minister later this month
seeking more fund for the athletes,
the country's Olympic association
said on Wednesday.

NEW DELHI: National record holder
long jumper Prem Kumar Kumaravel
on Saturday came up with a
creditable effort of 8.01m, his back-
to-back 8m-plus leap in a span of
two weeks, at an invitational event at
Irvine in United States.
21-year-old Prem, who holds the
national record of 8.09m which he
achieved in 2013, had two identical
jumps of 8.01m in his first and fifth
attempts at the 21st annual Adidas/
Steve Scott Invitational event at
University of California's Anteater
Stadium.

NASSAU (Bahamas): Jamaican sprint
sensation Usain Bolt is back from an
injury-blighted season and fully
ready to soar to the heights that saw
him set world records in both the
100 and 200m.
The six-time Olympic gold track
medallist skipped a large part of last
season with a nagging foot injury,
but said he was gearing up nicely
towards defending his sprint titles
at the World Athletics
Championships in Beijing in August.
"I have no pain," said Bolt ahead of
this weekend's second World Relays
in the Bahamas, adding that he saw
his doctor every three months to
"keep everything in line".

NEW DELHI: A 22-member Indian
athletics team, comprising nine girls
and 13 boys, left for Doha on
Wednesday to take part in the first-
ever Asian Youth Championships to
be held from May 8 to 11.
The team members include
upcoming talents like Beant Singh
(800 metres), Jisna Mathew (200m,
400m) -- a trainee of the legendary
PT Usha, high jumper Tejaswin
Shankar, and hammer throwers
Abhishek Drall and Ashish Jakhar
who shot into the limelight at the
national level in 2014.

DOHA: Two-time 1,500-meter world
champion Asbel Kiprop says the
Kenyan athletics federation's
decision to suspend and investigate
his management company has
unfairly linked him to doping.
Kiprop said Wednesday he was
"offended'' to read his name in
media reports about doping after
the Italian company that represents
him, Rosa & Associati, was
suspended in April from working in
Kenya for six months.
The company represented drug
cheats Rita Jeptoo and Mathew
Kisorio.
Kiprop, who is not accused of any
doping offense, said Athletics
Kenya's decision to suspend Rosa
and another European agency before
an investigation was ``not a good
move'' and meant people might see
him as "suspicious.''
Kenyan authorities have partly
blamed foreign athlete managers for
the spike in doping cases but
haven't presented any evidence
against the two companies.

WUHAN (China): Quarter-miler
Machettira Raju Poovamma and
heptathlete Liksy Joseph won a silver
each as India added four medals on
the second day of the 21st Asian
Athletics Championships on
Thursday.
Poovamma, who had also won a
silver in the last edition in 2013,
clocked 53.07 secs in women's 400m
finals to finish second behind
China's Yang Huizhen (52.37) and
was followed by Anastasiya Kudinova
(53.41) of Kazakhstan.
Joseph, who was trailing at sixth
place at the end of opening day on
Wednesday, cleared 6.19m in long
jump on Thursday to move up to
third place. Although she could not
do well in javelin throw, Liksy won
the 800m race, the last of her seven
events, with a time of 2:13.44 and
that brought her the silver medal
with personal best of 5,554 points.
Teammate and former Asian junior
champion Purnima Hembram got the
bronze with 5511 points.
