AT&T wants to sell Anime Streaming Site Crunchyroll for $1.5 Billion to Sony , discussion is going between them & Sony AT&T is in discussions to sell WarnerMedia’s Crunchyroll Japanese anime-streaming service to Sony, according to three people familiar with the situation. If the two sides could reach a deal—which is far from certain—it would strengthen Sony’s position in the niche market, as it already owns a rival anime service called Funimation.

AT&T Wants $1.5 Billion in Crunchyroll Sale to Sony

My opinion it would be better if Sony doesnt agree to buy it and even AT&T should not be in hurry to sale their popular streaming site they could optimally use it along with HBO Max offering.

Beside Sony has monopoly - and they are not even properly promoting the animes they have in other countries - they own Funimation, Animelab, Wakanim, Aniplex . which are geo restricted to few countries.

AT&T Warner media will gain more viewer's in coming years and can gain more revenue thanks to growing popularity of Anime worldwide and they can make their anime streaming site available to more regions

I hope this should not happen. Sony is evil. They censor and drop too much over n*d*ty. Recently Interspecies Reviewers was dropped by Funimation for same reason. Though they will get complete monopoly in anime streaming industry with Crunchyroll. Since Sony already owns Anime Lab (Australia), Wakanim (France), Funimation, Aniplex brands.

Crunchyroll done its purpose of Construction of HBO max which itself is abysmal. For a premium price of 15$ they max out at FHD and HBO Max isn't performing as per marks as per many Reports. At&t actually laid off many people across divisions in WarnerMedia earlier this week. May be the Animax content could end up on Crunchyroll if the deal goes through. Hope for the best.

Animax is no more Sony property. Sony sold Animax to KC Global Media. Sony has no more relationship with Animax anymore. Soon they will axe Animax VOD (Germany) with Funimation.

Animax is sold to KC Global in Southeast Asia and South Korea only. Sony still owns rest of the Animax buddy including the main Japanese one.

Bro Sony just has 60% stake in AK Holdings which handles Animax Japan. Meanwhile Funimation, Aniplex, Anime Lab and Wakanim are their 100% owned property. Also KC Global Media owns rights of Animax in South Asia region also (which includes India). Recently KC Global Media launched Animax Asia in Bangladesh Bengal Digital Cable...Animax branding will be completely axed by Sony now except Japanese region Animax UK VOD was also replaced by Funimation in 2019.

Thats fine Bro! The transaction with KC Global doesn't involve Indian/Japanese Businesses whatsoever! So I said that Animax content may wound up on Crunchyroll!

Also 60% is controlling stake also! U can see Disney Owns only 80% of ESPN still doesn't stop them treating it as their own company!

Animax buys anime from third party distributors like Muse, ODEX etc. That's why it can't come on Crunchyroll. Unless they buy license from them. KC Global Media can launch Animax or AXN in India again, they told my friend since they have rights of it in South Asia. AXN shutdown in India was also for same reason KC Global Media and Sony was going to buy Viacom 18 channels. So AXN and Animax brands now can't be used in India also by Sony.
