ASUS releases Marshmallow update time frame for most of its devices
The long awaited Android 6.0 Marshmallow update time frame for Zenfone series has finally revealed by Asus, and the update will break its covers in Q2 of 2016 (April-June). Asus already confirmed their list of eligible devices for Marshmallow update last year, but the company again revised the list of devices that will be the recipients of the latest sweetness of Android. According to the Asus, the update will be rolling out to below mentioned devices in Q2, 2016.
ZenFone 2 (ZE550ML, ZE551ML)
ZenFone 2 Deluxe (ZE551ML)
ZenFone 2 Deluxe Special Edition (ZE551ML)
ZenFone 2 Laser ( ZE500KL, ZE550KL, ZE601KL)
ZenFone Selfie (ZD551KL)
ZenFone Max (ZC550KL)
ZenFone Zoom (ZX551ML)
To add more, the company removed PadFone S (PF500KL) from the new list and added two new devices Zenfone Max and Zenfone Zoom. As we mentioned above, your Asus smartphone will be able to receive the official Android M OTA update starting from next quarter (Q2, 2016). Although, there is no guarantee that every Zenfone owner will be ended up upgrading to this new version of Android right away since it will be OTA, which is always a time consuming process. To remind you, most of the devices are in Zenfone lineup currently running on Android 5.0 Lollipop only, as per the given info that these devices will directly taste the Android 6.0 Marshmallow by skipping the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop.
In addition to the roll out time frame, the company also included Android M features that are going to hit along with usual Marshmallow goodies, you can check them out below.
Google Messenger, Calendar, and Gmail apps will automatically be included with the Android M update. These apps will replace three ZenUI apps—ASUS Messenger, ASUS Mail and ASUS Calendar—as the default apps in the Android M version of ZenUI if you restore to factory settings after the update.
Two years of scheduled automatic monthly Android M security and software updates.
Google Search will appear by default (Persistent) on the home screen.
Google Now page will appear to the left of the home page (swipe right for access).
Google Voice Assistant will be included.
Hot seat for Chrome and Google Messenger will be included.
