Asus has announced that its 7-inch MeMO Pad is available now in Singapore at S$249.
With its 1,024 x 600-pixel screen, single-core 1GHz processor, and just 8GB of internal storage, the MeMO Pad is a budget offering with fairly modest hardware. For instance, the display only has a 140-degree viewing angle, which is lower than the typical 178 degrees of an IPS panel.
In Singapore, the MeMO Pad is positioned below the Asus-built Google Nexus 7, which starts at S$349 for the 16GB model. There's currently no 3G option for the MeMO Pad, and it's unlikely we'll ever find this feature on a budget model.
The MeMO Pad, which was first unveiled at CES with a US$149 price tag, is likely to compete here with other budget slates such as the S$199 Acer Iconia B1. Between the two, the Asus tablet has twice the amount of RAM, and a slightly better front-facing camera. On the other hand, the Acer uses a dual-core 1.2GHz processor that could make it a better performer.
Both the Acer and Asus tablets come with a microSD expansion slot, enabling consumers to increase the limited base storage by up to 32GB. The Asus MeMO Pad is also powered by a 16Wh battery that is claimed to provide up to 7 hours of uptime.
Like its other tablets, Asus has preloaded a number of proprietary apps on the MeMO Pad, including Asus WebStorage, SuperNote Lite, and Asus Studio.
