United Arab Emirates (UAE) secured the top position in the Asia Cup T20 2016 qualifier to make it to tournament proper. UAE won its final round-robin match against Oman after having defeated Afghanistan and Hong Kong to proceed to main round of Asia Cup 2016.
UAE now joins Sri Lanka, Pakistan, India and hosts Bangladesh as the fifth team. Asia Cup T20 2016 gets underway from February 24 with an opening clash between hosts Bangladesh and India. The tournament will be played in T20 format for the first time in view to allow teams prepare for upcoming World T20 in India.
The tournament features the highly anticipated contest between traditional rivals India and Pakistan on February 27. Sri Lanka comes into the tournament as defending champions.
Venue: Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur will be the venue for Asia Cup T20 2016. The stadium will host all the 11 matches. In 2014, Sri Lanka defeated Pakistan in final to lift the Asia Cup.
