With the launch of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6
Plus one-handed typing on the iPhones is not
easy. These new phones are larger than
previous iPhones and are similar to many
modern Android phones. To make one-handed
typing easier, Apple has released a dedicated
app called the one handed keyboard on the
App Store.
This app works as a third party keyboard like
SwiftKey. It offers a keyboard which is the
same size as the keyboard on the iPhone 5S
and iPhone 5.
Such a feature is already baked into competing
Android phones like the Samsung Galaxy S5
and the Galaxy Note 3.
While the one-handed keyboard is nice
addition, the keyboard does not add the auto-
correct functionality that is found in the stock
iOS8 keyboard.
The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus have
significantly larger screens than previous
iPhones. While two-handed typing is easier,
people who prefer single-handed typing
struggle as the phones (particularly the iPhone
6 Plus) become unwieldy in the hand.
For the longest time Apple has propagated,
single-hand usage of its phones. With the
larger screens of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6
Plus, Apple loses the lure of single-hand
usage, but it mitigates matters by adding
features like 'Reachability' and now, the new
'one handed keyboard'.
