Apple may completely drop its aluminium casing for an all-glass enclosure in the iPhone 8 in 2017, suggests a report in 9to5Mac. The report quotes KGI Securities’ analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who is known for his accurate predictions on Apple.

While Apple iPhone 8 for 2017 might see a design overall, according to Kuo, the Cupertino-based tech giant will stick with the current aluminium design on the next iPhone aka iPhone 7.

If there is a drastic design change after iPhone 7, it also means Apple could skip naming the 2017 device as iPhone 7s, and instead call it iPhone 8. The ‘S’ has usually indicated a minor spec upgrade in the iPhone series with design remaining pretty much the same.

Kuo’s note also states that the 2017 iPhone will feature an AMOLED display, and support wireless charging. According to an earlier report, Apple wants to position the new screen iPhone as a replacement to the current TFT LCD display iPhone 6s Plus, and could launch a bigger 5.8-inch display version for the iPhone Plus series.

The all-glass iPhone with AMOLED display will be thinner, and lighter, adds Kuo in his report. Note that Apple’s iPhone 4 and iPhone 4s featured an all glass design.

Earlier leaks suggest that iPhone 7 might feature dual lens camera set-up, 3 GB RAM, and no headphone jack. There have also been reports that Apple is working on a wireless Beats headphone for the next iPhone device.
