Apple iPhone 7 will have IPX7 certification making it waterproof, as well as dual 12MP rear cameras, says a new leaked report from KGI Securities. The research firm is known for its accurate details on Apple iPhone leaks, and the latest one reveals quite a few facts about the upcoming iPhone 7, including the clock speed of the A10 processor (2.4GHz according to KGI).
9to5Mac has picked up the report from KGI Securities, and points out the A10 will be a big upgrade compared to the A9, and this one will be manufactured by Taiwanese company TSMC. With the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, there were two versions of the A9 chip: one by Samsung and one by TSMC, but it looks like this year Apple is sticking with the Taiwanese player. Interestingly, the one year-old iPhone 6s is still faster than newer devices like Samsung Galaxy Note7( which has been plagued by battery problems) according to some video tests, so it looks like with the iPhone 7, Apple plans to take this even higher.
KGI Securities also confirms iPhone 7 series will have the IPX7 rating official, which will make it waterproof. In case of the iPhone 6s, Apple didn’t official mention waterproofing, but there were YouTube videos which showed how the devices continued to work even after being submerged under water for half an hour or more.
The other big changes on the list include two new colours which are ‘dark black’ and ‘piano black’. So bid goodbye to Space Grey, and this also brings the two colour options upto five. The black colour will be one of the most awaited options from Cupertino, and we’ve seen 3D renders of Apple iPhone 7 in black earlier this year. Apple is also changing the speakers and Force Touch sensors on the device, notes KGI and the headphone jack is going for sure.
Apple iPhone 7’s dual camera system will be iPhone 7 Plus exclusive, although the 4.7-inch iPhone’s camera will also get a boost. The display sizes will remain the same, but could see better visual features. Apple is not expected to introduced OLED displays with the iPhone 7 and instead the 2017 iPhone series will come with a bumped up display option.
The KGI report also gives details on the dual camera saying it will have optical zoom, a wide-angle camera and a telephoto camera, as well as a new flash to improve low-light photography. The dual-rear camera has been reported by others, including Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, who had also said in the report the new iPhones will offer improved low-light performance. But the KGI report gives details on the lens as well.
The research firm also hints at 3GB RAM for iPhone 7 Plus, something which will be hard to confirm since Apple never talks about this bit in their presentations. The 16GB iPhone is dying as is the 64GB, claims the report, which will be interesting because then Apple will offer 32,128 and 256GB models.
Earlier Wall Street Journal had reported Apple will kill the 16GB iPhone, and introduce water-proofing on the new device. The death of the 64GB iPhone might not be such good news for Apple fans though since this was a great option for many.
The headphone jack is dying for sure, and Apple is shipping this phone with Lightning EarPods as well as a Headphone Jack adapter. Interestingly KGI forecasts a lower shipment number for iPhone 7 at 65 million and blames less innovative points as one of the reasons. For Apple, though, the iPhone 7 is an important device and needed to boost sagging sales of their star product.
Apple CEO Tim Cook has said in the past the iPhone 7 will make every customer want to upgrade, and it will be a crucial launch for the company. However, analysts peg the iPhone 8, which will also mark the 10-year anniversary of the device, as being a game-changer for Apple with a new OLED display, all glass design, and other significant changes.
