It looks like Apple's new iPads are coming to
India soon. There is a possibility that some
retailers in the country will start taking pre-
orders for the iPad Air 2 and iPad Mini 3 on
Friday, which is tomorrow.

However, the products won't be available for
immediate sale on Friday. Sources told
IndiaToday.in that the tablets will not be
available for immediate sale on Friday, 21
November 2014. The only possibility is for the
pre-orders but even that is not confirmed.

Earlier one retailer -- @itnetinfocom -- tweeted,
"iPad air 2 and iPad Mini 3 coming tomorrow."
But we believe that the tweet is referring to
pre-orders and not actual launch.

Apple had announced the iPad Air 2 and the
iPad Mini 3 back in October. The company has
already announced the pricing for the products
in India.

The iPad Air 2 will start at Rs 35,900 for the
16GB Wi-Fi only model, while the iPad Mini 3
will start at Rs 28,900. The Wi-Fi only models
of the iPad Air 2 in 64GB and 128GB of
storage will cost Rs 42,900 and Rs 49,900
respectively. Besides this, the Wi-Fi only iPad
Mini 3 models with 64GB and 128GB of storage
will cost Rs 35,900 and Rs 42,900 respectively.

The iPad Air 2 with 3G connectivity will cost
Rs 45,900 for the 16GB model. The 64GB
model of the same will cost Rs 52,900, while
the 128GB version will cost Rs 59,900. The
iPad Mini 3 with cellular connectivity starts at
Rs 38,900 for 16GB of storage. For the 64GB
and 128GB models, the cost increases to Rs
45,900 and Rs 52,900 respectively.

In the iPad Air 2, Apple has added a new A8X
64-bit processor, which is even faster than the
one in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The
iPad Air 2 also gets the Touch ID' fingerprint
scanner, a new 8-megapixel rear camera faster
and 802.11ac MiMO Wi-Fi. The iPad Mini 3 is a
rather minor update as it only receives the
'Touch ID' fingerprint scanner. Other than that
its hardware is identical to that of the iPad
Mini 2.

Both the tablets run on iOS 8.1 which adds
new features like Handoff and better inter-app
communication.

It can be recalled that at 6.1mm, the Apple

tablet to date. The device is almost 18 per
cent thinner than the first generation iPad Air.
However, on the specifications front, the iPad
Air 2 doesn't add a lot to the table apart from
the fact that it comes with a TouchID
fingerprint scanner on its power button and an
8MP iSight camera onboard. The Apple iPad
Air 2 also sports a 1.2MP front facing camera.
Meanwhile, Apple iPad mini 3 also comes with

While we expected the device to go on sale around Diwali along with the iPhone 6, given Apple’s track record in India it still isn’t too late considering the devices were launched just a month and half ago.

The Apple iPad Air 2 measures just 6.1mm thin and weighs just 435g. It is easily the world’s thinnest tablet, almost 18 per cent thinner than the original iPad Air. The major update is the presence of the TouchID fingerprint scanner on the power button in the iPad Air 2.

It comes in the golden coloured back as well as space-gray and silver backs. The other major addition is the presence of an 8MP iSight camera, which brings in all the goodies such as time-lapse mode, live HDR, 120fps slo-mo mode, burst mode, panorama and so on. There is an improved 1.2MP front facing camera as well.

The Apple iPad mini 3 is a generational upgrade over the iPad mini with Retina Display. The major update with the mini 3 is also the addition of the TouchID which improves security. The iPad mini 3 is powered by the Apple A7 SoC and just like the iPad Air 2, will run on iOS 8.1. It also gets the 5MP iSight camera like the iPad mini 2. Most of the other aspects of the iPad mini 3 have been carried forward from its previous iteration – the iPad mini 2.
