Apple and Flipkart have partnered for online retail of the iPhone 7 , which launches in India on October 7. Under the deal, Flipkart will source iPhones directly from Apple, unlike earlier when it used to source them from third-party retailers in a marketplace model. Flipkart has a new microsite that indicates the iPhone 7 is coming soon. Infibeam would be the other online partner. However, the scope of Apple’s partnership with Flipkart and Infibeam differs in terms of the product catalog they will sell. According to what Apple is calling “Authorised Resellers for Internet or catalogue sales” in India, Flipkart will sell across all categories which include iPhones, iPads and Macs. Infibeam, on the other hand, will only sell the iPhone and iPad portfolio of devices.

The partnership will be win-win for both Apple and Flipkart . For Apple, it ensures that the iPhones are sold at its mandated pricing and it doesn’t lead to price erosion as it had happened last year with the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus where Flipkart, Amazon and Paytm started discounting iPhones to gain GMV. For Flipkart, it will not only have to bleed money in discounts but will also get marketing support from Apple.
As a part of the deal, Flipkart in all likelihood will not sell iPhones on the marketplace from third-party retailers and will get stocks directly from Apple’s distribution channel. This could be a big win for Flipkart in its fight against Amazon India, which will have to rely on the market place to sell iPhones, including the latest iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus , which are expected to be in short supply initially.

Apple will launch the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus in India on October 7. Prices for the iPhone 7 start from Rs 60,000 for the 32GB variant and go up to Rs 80,000 for the 256GB variant. Prices for the iPhone 7 Plus, on the other hand, start from Rs 72,000 for the 32GB variant, and go up to Rs 92,000 for the 256GB variant. Apple will also be launching a bunch of accessories, with prices starting from Rs 900 and going up to Rs 15,400 for a pair of AirPods.

Ahead of the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus launch in India, Apple has also revised the prices of the iPhone 6s , iPhone 6s Plus and the iPhone SE. For one, Apple has discontinued the 16GB variant of last year’s iPhones. In other words, the iPhone 6s and the iPhone 6s Plus will only be available in 32GB and 128GB variants. The iPhone 6s will now be available for Rs 50,000 and Rs 60,000 respectively, while the iPhone 6s Plus will be available for Rs 60,000 and Rs 70,000 respectively. The iPhone SE will be available in 16GB and 64GB variants, priced at Rs 39,000 and Rs 44,000 respectively.

Along with the new iPhones, Apple will also be launching the Watch Series 2 in India, which too will be going on sale from October 7. Prices for the smartwatch start from Rs 32,900 for the gold, rose gold, space grey aluminum, or space black stainless steel variants. The ceramic Apple Watch Edition is priced at Rs 110,900. The Nike+ Apple Watch Series 2 variant will be available for Rs 32,900 for 38mm, and Rs 34,900 for the 42mm variants.
