Last month, Google released the developer preview of its upcoming Android version, the
Android N. Going by the previous iterations over the past couple of years – Android 5.0 Lollipop and Android 6.0 Marshmallow, one would expect the Android N would be version 7.0. While Google didn’t officially reveal the name and version number, Samsung may have accidently revealed its version number.
Recently, Samsung released the software development kit (SDK) for MultiWindow feature, which is commonly found on most Samsung Galaxy devices. In the SDK release note, Samsung has mentioned “This version has been released with Android N (7.0) compatibility.”
As Samsung is an important partner for Google, being the world’s largest smartphone brand, it would be safe to believe that Android N have version number 7.0. As per a previous leak, Google internally calls Android N as ‘New York Cheesecake.’ However, the final name may be completely different.
Android N brings a host of new features such as the multiwindow support, inline notifications reply, background optimizations to doze mode, improved data saver, call screening and number blocking among others.
For the first time, Google has also made it
easier for users to install the Android N Developer Preview version on their compatible Nexus smartphones. With easy access to the upcoming OS, Google wants more people to test it and offer bug reports, thus helping the search engine giant to add stability and refinements before releasing the final version.
Google is set to hold the I/O 2016 next month, and we expect more details about Android N at the developer conference.
