Based on the latest reports by market research firm Strategy Analytics, Android has bumped up 4% in terms of global market share in Q3 2016. The market share stood at around 88% (87.5% to be exact) in Q3 2016 as compared to 84.1% in Q3 2015.

Android's gain came at the expense of every major rival platform. Apple iOS lost ground to Android and dipped to 12 percent share worldwide in Q3 2016, due to a lackluster performance in China and Africa." He further commented on sudden disappearance of BlackBerry and Microsoft Windows OS due to strategic shifts and Tizen for limited product line.
Coming to the smartphone shipments, the overall global shipments increased by 6% in Q3 2016 when compared to same period last year. Android witnessed a year on year growth of about 10.3% from 298 million units to 328.6 million units. Here again, Apple lost about 5.2% of shipments from 48 million units to 45.5 million units. Other platforms which include BlackBerry and Windows OS also lost quite a bit from 8.2 million units to 1.3 million units making an year on year loss of about 84.1%.
