Amazon is set to close the gap in smartphone sales with rival Flipkart according to a recent report. The company overtook Snapdeal to come to the second spot in the first half of the year, as reported by Economic Times. Amazon gained a steep 11.5 percent by the end of April- June quarter from December to reach 32 percent market share in selling smartphones online.
Flipkart on the other hand is way ahead with 40 percent of online smartphone sales going to the company. But the company has seen a decline from the 47.5 percent back in December according to the data from Counterpoint Technology Market Research. Similarly, Snapdeal saw a decline reaching 18 percent from 22.3 percent in December last year. All three players are aiming at improving their market position in the coming quarter by targeting the festival season in the country.
The companies have started the marketing campaigns offering exclusive discounts and no cost EMIs to consumers. The festival season accounts for almost half the annual revenue generated by online sales. According to the data, Amazon is the fastest growing when compared to all other online websites for online smartphone sales.
According to experts, Amazon’s expansion was backed by exclusive deals. Now the company has accelerated growth by marketing blitz and is offering high-end smartphones on their website. The company regularly keeps sale events, flash sales and in-app discounts, which have helped improve its position. This comes right after both Amazon and Flipkart opened pre-orders for the upcoming Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus.
