Aditya Birla Private Equity has acquired minority stake in Creative Lifestyles, which owns women’s apparel brands such as 109F, Fusion Beats and O2xygen.
Without revealing the quantum of investment, Birendra Agarwal, Chairman, Creative Lifestyle, said the private equity has valued the company at ₹300 crore and the investment was made through its Sunrise Fund.
“The partnership with Aditya Birla Private Equity will help the company achieve the growth phase and benefit from the right impetus and experience working closely with the Aditya Birla team,” he said.
The Sunrise Fund of the Birla Group focuses on providing growth capital to proven business concepts in innovation sunrise sectors with specific themes, including lifestyle, lifeskills and education, lifecare and applied technologies. The fund looks for substantial minority stakes, while investing primarily in unlisted India-centric business with a potential to play the role of an active investor.
The Birla group has been expanding its foray into fashion retail following its decision to merge fashion retail business under Madura Fashions and Madura Lifestyle with Pantaloons Fashion and Retail to create the country’s largest branded apparel player, valued at ₹12,000 crore.
Founded in 1973, Creative Garments group teamed up with industry veteran Rahul Mehta to set up Creative Lifestyle.
D Muthukumaran, CEO, Aditya Birla Private Equity, said in the last nine years, the Creative team has built up a strong presence in women’s branded apparel segment, which has potential for growth in the coming years.
The women’s casual wear, 109F has presence in over 366 retail outlets including 35 EBOs (exclusive branded outlets) and 331 large format stores. Fusion Beats, an indo-western offering catering to the Indian women sells across 10 EBOs and 200 large format stores.
