Acer’s Chromebook 14 is a gorgeous, all-metal Chromebook that can give you 14 hours of battery life and a gorgeous, Macbook-esque design. Coupled with an option for a full HD display (1080p) and a price tag of $299 (around Rs 20,000), this is an amazing deal.
The device will be powered by a 1.6GHz Celeron processor, comes with 4GB RAM and offers 32GB of onboard storage. There are two devices to choose from, one offers a full HD 14-inch IPS display, while the other offers a lower display resolution of 1366 x 768 coupled with 2GB of RAM and 16GB of storage.
The more powerful model retails for $299 and offers 12 hours of battery life while the lower resolution model offers 14 hours of battery life.
The design and all-aluminium build are very reminiscent of Apple’s MacBook. Unlike the MacBook however, Acer sensibly throws in a couple of USB 3.1 ports. At 1.55 kg, it’s a tad heavier than the MacBook’s 0.92 kg.
Chromebooks can get by with a minimum of RAM and storage, but they’re for a niche audience that has unrestricted access to the Internet. The Chromebook is also a great tool for people who only work on the web and don’t have the budget or the inclination to spend on a more powerful PC.
At the same time, cheap Chromebook’s are usually, well, cheap. Poor build quality and screens don’t make for pleasant devices. Acer’s Chromebook 14 seems set to buck that trend however.
