Aakash-2 tablets to be launched in April-May

VADODARA: Union human resource development (HRD) ministry will be launching Aakash-2 tablets in April-May this year, Union minister of state, HRD, Dr D Purandeswari, said this here on Friday.

Purandeswari was in the city as chief guest at the valedictory function of National HRD Conclave 2012 organized by Federation of Gujarat Industries (FGI).

"Aakash-2 tablets, which are improvised tablets with a faster processor and a capacitive touch screen, will be launched in April-May. We will be making it available to college and university students at the same price as Aakash-1 tablets. After gauging its success at higher education level, we will make the tablets available for school students also," she said, adding that Aakash-2 is an improved upon new version of Aakash-1 which had problems with the battery life.

Interacting with mediapersons on the sidelines of the function, she hinted that the budgetary allocation for education sector would increase.

"In the 11th Five Year Plan, the sector had received 19 per cent of the total budgetary allocation. We are hopeful that in the 12th Five Year Plan, the allocation will be above 19 per cent," she said.

She said India is gradually moving towards becoming the land of opportunities from the land of ideas. "While the USA is viewed as the land of opportunities, India is still largely seen as the land of ideas. But, today the doyens of Indian industry have started realizing that if they do not innovate, they will perish," she said.

FGI president Geeta Goradia informed that FGI will prepare a special film based on the key takeaways from various speakers at the conclave. The conclave saw participation of 28 speakers, 25 organizations and over 200 registered delegates from across the country.
