MUMBAI: Telefusion Mobile TV, which owns and operates television interactive mobile application WooMe.mobi, announced on Friday that it has raised an undisclosed amount of funding from 5ideas Startup Superfuel Fund launched by Pearl Uppal and Gaurav Kachru.

They have also invested in their personal capacity.

The fund typically invests up to $2.5 million in consumer internet and mobile technology start-ups.
Telefusion Mobile was founded in 2012 by siblings Maxel and Sanju Rapheal. An MBA from University of London, Maxel had worked as an investment banker prior to setting up the company. His brother Sanju was employed with Motorola after completing his engineering degree.

The duo joined hands to set up an unnamed mobile TV start-up in Silicon Valley.

“We tend to consume more content on our mobile screens than via conventional access points, this trend will continue to strengthen with larger screens, better bandwidth and more computing power.

Woome is helping Indian brands and entertainment powerhouses connect with their customers in a meaningful, contextual and relevant format,” 5ideas Startup Superfuel managing partner Pearl Uppal said in a statement.

WooMe is a mobile app that enables interactivity among TV channels, music, movies, movie trailers, radio, multiplexes and advertising. The app uses an audio content recognition technology that listens to the audio from the programme the user is watching, and serves additional related content such as videos, pictures and news, to the user’s mobile screen.
WooMe claims to have already indexed over 30 million songs across Bollywood, Tamil, Telugu, English and other global music. Currently, WooMe has enabled interactivity on around 25 TV channels including music channels like 9XM, 9XO, Jalwa, ETC and is planning to scale to 100 TV channels by the end of this year.

WooMe has an exclusive partnership with Sportz Interactive, a STATS Global company for engaging sports fans with engaging branded content. WooMe is also integrating its technology with multiplexes across India for making pre-show trailers and commercials more interesting and engaging.

Meanwhile, the number of mobile apps downloading in India is projected to grow from 1.56 billion per annum in 2012, to 9 billion by 2015, according to a report by Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt Ltd. This translates into a compound annual growth rate of 75 per cent. The share of video in internet data traffic is expected touch 64 per cent in 2017, according to the report.
