Good News 4G services restored in Jammu & Kashmir

Attorney-General K.K. Venugopal informed the Supreme Court on Tuesday that high-speed 4G Internet access will be opened up after Independence Day on August 15 at one district in each of Jammu and Kashmir’s divisions.

The Centre, however, said a blanket removal of the 4G ban was not possible now, considering the “overall situation” and “threat perception” to national, border and local security.

Appearing before a three-judge Bench led by Justice N.V. Ramana, Mr. Venugopal read out from an additional affidavit that the “carefully calibrated” opening up of 4G access will be on a trial basis.

4G services restored in Udhampur in Jammu and Ganderbal in Kashmir

As the clock struck 9 pm on Sunday, the netizens who had got glued to their smartphones started surfing the net and it was a pleasant surprise for everyone to have high speed internet services working, bringing a cheer and excitement to the faces. Exactly after over one year period of time the high speed internet services, 4G, were restored on a trial basis in twin districts of Jammu and Kashmir Union territory on Sunday August 16 evening including Udhampur in Jammu province and Ganderbal in Kashmir. Joy new know bounds for the people of Ganderbal district after the government announced to restore in a first the 4G internet services here and after a year of unheard pleas finally the time had come when they could find themselves shifting literally from a stone age time to the digital world.

From updating of phones after a period of one year to sharing humorous videos to the friends and playing online games it was all an environment of joy and jubilation in the district. The spread of the sense of relief people received with the restoration of high speed mobile data services can be measured by the fact that apart from those using social media for leisure, several others who use it for educational and other professional purposes are also thrilled.

Internet should be provided to only those apps which govt has access to like Facebook, Whatsapp, etc which govt. agencies can easily track.

Agree to disagree. J&K needs a China like firewall to prevent unlawful activities. This country in general needs to get rid of apps with end to end encryption. Country's security should be treated way above privacy.

This country is build on the foundation of hard earned freedom. If J&K is an integral part of this country then it's citizens are eligible for every right and privileges that other Indians have.

Curious on how other countries manage their national security even though some suffer even higher insurgency. USA doesn't block, censor or shut down internet yet manages to maintain national security in fabulous way.

Just look at forces and population they have. People over there are educated enough to think twice before taking any action where as here People are misdirected by the local politician and result is in front of you. But, not anymore our president is doing really well and taking step by step.
