NEW DELHI: A special TADA court today awarded life sentence to convict Abu Salem and Karimullah Khan in the 1993 Mumbai blasts case, in which 257 people were killed and 700 had injured.
Since under the extradition treaty with Portugal, Salem cannot be given death sentence, the court decided to sentence him with life imprisonment of 25 years.
Apart from Salem and Khan, the court has also convicted Mohammed Tahir Merchant alias Tahir Takla, Riyaz Siddiqui and Feroze Abdul Rashid Khan.
Tahir Merchant and Feroze Abdul Rashid Khan have been granted death sentence, while Riyaz Siddiqui got a 10-year jail term. Riyaz Siddiqui has one more sentencing pending for the murder of Pradeep Jain. It is posted for tomorrow.
