Digital entertainment firm Hungama today announced addition of Telugu content from South's entertainment conglomerates Sun TV Network and Maa TV - on its on-demand movies app.

Hungama Play, a video-on-demand provider, said the acquisition shows its focus on South Indian markets.

Hungama Play has the largest Telugu catalog in the app ecosystem. Of the total content library on Hungama Play, 25 percent of the movies are Telugu titles, making it the second largest collection after Hindi films, said Hungama.com CEO Siddhartha Roy.

"While the four south Indian languages constitute 38 percent of overall content consumption in India, Telugu is the third most consumed language on our app after Hindi and English respectively," Roy told reporters here.

Hungama Play aims to further expand the library by adding over 300 Telugu films from the Maa TV catalog along with future releases and over 220 films from the Sun Network library across all four Southern languages, he said.
Launched in July 2015, Hungama Play currently offers over 7,500 movie titles across English, Hindi and other Indian languages for a monthly subscription of Rs 199.

Roy said Hungama has a monthly active user base of 67 million across its entertainment services and it will reach 100 million MAUs (monthly active users) by March 2017.

He said "17 million users transact with the company for various digital services." Another arm of the company, Hungama Music, has tied up with SIIMA - South Indian International Movie Awards - for the second consecutive year. SIIMA will be simulcast exclusively on Hungama Play.

Hungama Play has updated its app app with version 2.0. Hungama Play has added over 7000 hours of video content along with new features such as download manager and swipe gesture controlled media player. Hungama has a movie library of over 8,000 titles. Hungama Play 2.0 has launched new sections including television, music videos, kids, short movies and live events across genres and languages with over 45,000 video pieces.

Also, Hungama Play has partnered with Sony, BBC, ITV, Rajshri, Sun TV Network, Maa TV and NDTV Lifestyle. The service already has several content providers including Warner Bros, Yash Raj Films, UTV Disney and Balaji Telefilms and more. Hungama Play plans to roll out original content with 5 new series by March next year. The new kids catalog in Hungama Play caters to pre-schoolers from the age of 2 years to young teenagers. It has added popular TV series like Noksu, Fimbles, Peekaboo, Nelly & Nora, Danny and Daddy, HI5 and Akbar Birbal to the catalog. It has added short films and documentaries on social causes, historic events, pop culture, etc in Hindi and English.

“We are delighted to announce the biggest upgrade of our video-on-demand service. The erstwhile movie app is now a fully-loaded one-stop destination for all video content that caters to a larger audience base ranging from 2 – 35 years and above. With the new download feature the consumers have the ability to carry content in an offline mode and be able to consume it at their leisure even when they are not connected to the internet,” Siddhartha Roy, CEO – Hungama.com said.

Hungama Play 2.0 comes loaded with features like downloading and viewing videos offline. Also, there’s download scheduler and swipe gesture controlled video player. With the ‘download scheduler’ the users can schedule the time of the download and select the internet network (Wi-Fi or data connection). The download manager allows users to manage the content downloaded from the app as well as the local content on their device.

Hungama was alive all this time. I thought they piped out since the advent of Spotify and its likes. I see podcasts a thing now, lets see its revival.
