15,000 post-graduates, graduates among candidates applying for sweepers' posts in UP

As many as 15,000 candidates, including graduates, post-graduates and BEd degree holders have applied for posts of 'safai karmachari' (sweepers) on contractual bases in Agra Municipal Corporation.

On August 1, the civic authority issued a notification for class IV category 1,778 post. The body specified that only a literate candidate could apply for the post, but officials have received an overwhelming response from candidates who are very highly qualified, considering the job.

Speaking to TOI, Manoj Prabhat, executive engineer, the officer who is coordinating for the hiring process said, "Nearly 30 % of applicants applied for the contractual sweepers are graduates, post graduates and BEd. Wednesday is the last day for the submission of form, we expect that percentage of very highly qualified applicants will rise."

Ram Singh Gautam, deputy commissioner of Agra Municipal Corporation said, "Till now we have received nearly 50,000 applications for the sweepers' job. We expect to receive 30,000 more."

He said, "When it comes to government jobs, we understand the fad among the youth who look for a safe career, but it is astonishing to see when graduates and post graduates applicants apply for class IV category posts at a salary of nearly Rs 17,000 per month."

On Monday, a report stated that, Kanpur Municipal Corporation received nearly 5 lakh applications for 3, 275 posts of "safai karamchari."

A similar case was reported in January when around 17,000 youth have applied for 114 posts of sweepers in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district. In Bhatinda district of Punjab, as many as 8,500 applications were received for 19 posts of class IV. The applicants were MBA, MCA degree holder.

Govt needs to create more jobs for d youth.... :angry :wall

How will India compete against d mighty nations, China, US etc... if such things continue :dodgy
