So the good folks at the Ministry of Tourism have released data for overseas tourist arrivals for the month of August. According to the ministry, India welcomed about 670,000 foreign travelers in August. This is up by 11.8 per cent when compared to the 599,000 tourist arrivals in August 2015. International tourism revenues for the same period also saw a jump of 13.1 per cent to Rs 129.03 billion. Most tourists arrived in India through Delhi (28.4 per cent). Mumbai came second with 17.3 per cent foreign tourists choosing the financial capital of country as their gateway. Chennai accounted for 10.2 per cent of foreign tourist arrivals and came third while the Benapole-Haridaspur land border crossing from Bangladesh accounted for 9.1 per cent tourist arrivals. Finally, Bengaluru welcomed 6.8 per cent tourist arrivals. So which countries sent the most tourists to India? Let’s take a look, shall we

France

The terror-stricken French sought refuge on the sunny Indian shores. 2.5 per cent French tourists chose India as their travel destination of choice.

Germany

2.6 per cent of the total foreign tourists who arrived in India in August said Auf Wiedersehen when leaving the country.

Canada

The good people from the country of Justin Trudeau also contributed to 2.6 per cent of the tourists in August.

Japan

2.8 per cent of tourists who arrived in India in August said Kon’nichiwa when they landed on the shores of India.

China

And just as many Chinese (2.8 per cent) arrived in India in the same month.

Malaysia

Malaysia contributed 3.4 per cent to the tourist arrivals in India.

Sri Lanka

While our neighbors across the sea sent 5.9 per cent tourists our way.

United Kingdom

The Brits have always loved India — the last time they came, they refused to leave for three centuries. And in the very month their predecessors left the country in 1947, they arrived on India’s shores and contributed to 10.6 per cent of the traffic.

United States of America

The US was the second largest contributor to foreign tourist arrivals in the country at 12.6 per cent.

Bangladesh

And India’s favorite neighbor, Bangladesh accounted for the highest proportion of overseas arrivals to India with 16.6 per cent of 670,000 tourists. Interestingly, the Benapole-Haridaspur land border of Bangladesh accounted for 9.1 per cent of tourist arrivals.

We should promote more medical tourism sector bcoz of its low cost compared to western world.
 
and what abt Pakistani tourists coming without a visa :hehe
I mean their terrorists... abt 10-15 coming every day to die here. :D Just joking :P


We shud promote our tourism, we have everythig it takes, to be a global topspot for tourists world over :win
