ZTE, one of China's largest network and phone suppliers, is working on several new tablets, including one built with Nvidia's newest quad-core Tegra 3 processor. Called the T98, the tablet will use the Android 3.2 operating system and will feature a 7-inch screen, with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The device will be built with 1GB of RAM, and 16GB of integrated storage. It comes equipped with a 5-megapixel camera in the rear and a 2-megapixel camera in the front.

ZTE revealed information about the tablet at a tech show in Beijing this week. A ZTE spokeswoman declined to offer more information about the tablet, but said Nvidia would make an official announcement about it at the end of October. Nvidia could not be reached for immediate comment.

Nvidia's Tegra 3 processor codenamed "Kal-El" contains a fifth core, to help devices using the chip save power. For instance, during low-power tasks like Web browsing or music playback, the Tegra 3 processor will power down its four cores and instead rely on its the fifth core.

In May, Nvidia showed a prototype tablet running the Tegra 3 processor at Taipei's Computex trade show. The company said in a blog post last week that the chip will be released soon.

Another tablet ZTE plans to release is called the Light Tab 3S, which it plans to sell in the U.S. and European markets by the end of the year. The tablet has a dual core 1.2 GHz processor and features a 10-inch screen with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels. The tablet uses Android 3.2, comes with 1GB of RAM, and 4GB of integrated storage. A 5-megapixel camera is built into the rear, while a 1.3 megapixel camera is in the front. A ZTE spokeswoman said the company has yet to firm up pricing of the Light Tab 3S.
