After becoming the fastest Asian bowler to claim 100 Test wickets, Pakistan leg-spinner Yasir Shah has expressed his desire for a showdown against India and their star spinner Ravichandran Ashwin. The 30-year-old reached the three-figure milestone after completing his five-wicket haul in the opening Test of the three-match series against West Indies in Dubai last evening. Yasir also became the joint-second quickest bowler to reach 100 Test wickets, thus surpassing Indian all-rounder Ashwin’s record of achieving the feat in 18 matches.

“Every Pakistani and Indian player has this wish to play against each other. I have not played a Test against India so it’s my wish,” he was quoted as saying by cricket.com.au. Earlier, Ashwin took to Twitter to wish luck to Yasir ahead of the opening Test against West Indies. “Good luck, may the force be with him [Yasir],”Ashwin tweeted before adding that the leggie is a delight to watch. Responding to Ashwin’s message, Yasir said the Indian spinner’s words were an inspiration.

“Yes, he had said good luck so I am thankful. It’s naturally motivating when a great bowler who is second fastest to 200 wickets tweets a good luck message and it’s really a great motivation for me,” he said. Political tensions between two nuclear-armed neighbours have not allowed a Test series against each other since 2007. Ashwin had made his Test debut in 2011 while Yasir has only started playing in Tests two years ago. The duo, however, have crossed paths in a Wold Cup 2015 match at Adelaide, where Ashwin clinched one wickets while Yasir went wicket-less.
