WhatsApp working on separate app for Business; ability to unsend messages coming soon

WhatsApp is working on the ability to allow users to ‘revoke’ messages using a ‘revoke’ function. Currently, the functionality is limited to the beta version of iOS where you are presented with the option to ‘revoke’ the message when you long press on a message inside a chat. The feature is available in personal chat, but there is no clarity about the feature arriving in group chat.

This new feature has not made its way in the Android beta version at the time of writing this article. After the rollout of video calling feature last month, this is the most significant feature that will make its way to WhatsApp. Once you select the ‘revoke’ option, it removes the message from the inbox of the recipient which will be a saviour for many who previously sent messages in wrong groups or to people other than the ones intended to receive the message.

The addition of this functionality will enrich the feature-set offered by WhatsApp, and the app shows “Sender revoked the message” in place of the revoked message. The notification of the revoked message makes it useful for people to know that there was some message and makes it impossible to make the conversation seem out of context. Still, it is too early for use to say if the feature is useful, we will have to wait and watch about how the company will strike a balance between the usability of the feature and potential misuse of the app.

According to reports by reliable WhatsApp information source on upcoming features
WA Beta Info , WhatsApp may be working on a separate app for Business users. The second app is being referred to as WhatsApp for Business aimed at business users. It’s not confirmed if the Business app will be different or WhatsApp will let two profiles, business and personal profiles run in the same app. The profile system will not make sense and WhatsApp will probably keep a check that each device can only use one personal and one business profile.

There are concerns about the app being bloated, but let’s see how that develops. WABetaInfo also pointed out that the company will allow companies to set up Business contacts which will be verified by WhatsApp. Businesses can then use WhatsApp to send advertisements in place of SMSes and you can allow the messages or block the sender.

WhatsApp might soon allow users to revoke and edit sent messages

WhatsApp will soon allow users to revoke and edit messages which they have sent, according to leaks. (Representational Image: Reuters)
WhatsApp has been adding a slew of new features to the service for all of 2016, and it looks like more changes are coming. According to leaks put out by Twitter account WABetaInfo, which is known for its accuracy on WhatsApp’s upcoming features, the service will soon let users revoke and edit messages which they have sent.

The Twitter account put out a video which shows how the messages can be revoked in the
iOS version of instant-messaging app. According to the leak, WhatsApp beta for iOS 2.17.1.869 is where this ability has been spotted; apparently users can revoke a message even after it has been read by the recipient. This revoke feature also extends to group chat messages.

However, it is not clear if this feature will make its way to the regular user build soon, or if it will take some time. Usually WhatsApp’s takes a while before it rolls out new features to all users.

Additionally WhatsApp is also working on the ability to edit messages. WABetaInfo says that

“WhatsApp had added in beta the possibility to edit messages that you already sent, and it is actually disabled by default and it’s under development. ”
WhatsApp is also working on a new way to show ‘Status’, which could soon be made private. Users will also be able to view just how many of their friends saw their Status update, and will also be able to delete these status updates. It was reported earlier that WhatsApp is working on making these Status Updates feel a lot more like how Snapchat’s Stories work. On Snapchat, the Stories disappear in 24 hours, and you can also see which of your friends viewed your story.

recently added the video-calling feature to its app, and it was a long-awaited feature. With over one billion monthly active users, WhatsApp is the world’s biggest instant messaging app, with its closest rival being Facebook Messenger in terms of user base. But it helps that Facebook owns both the apps. WhatsApp has over 160 million users in India alone, and is one of the most popular apps in the country.
With leaks indicating a revoke and an edit feature in the works, it could mean that should you send a WhatsApp message to the wrong person, you will at least be able to fix that mistake. We’ll have to wait and see how soon WhatsApp launches this feature for all.

You May be Able to Recall, Edit Sent Messages on WhatsApp With New Update
Next time when you send a message intended for your girlfriend mistakenly to someone else on WhatsApp, relax as you may be able to revoke such messages in the near future.

According to the WABetaInfo account on Twitter, the instant messaging app WhatsApp has reportedly added the features to revoke and edit the sent messages in a beta version testing.

"WhatsApp has added in beta the possibility to edit messages that you already sent. It is actually disabled by default and it's under development," the WABetaInfo's tweet read.
But the users will be able to edit only recent messages and not the old ones.

According to the WABetaInfo, the feature is currently available in WhatsApp Beta for the iOS 2.17.1.869 platform.

Last month, WhatsApp launched a video calling feature from India which was rolled out globally to other countries.
The feature is available on all platforms -- Android, iOS and Windows.

With 160 million users in India, WhatsApp is available in more than 50 different languages around the world and in 10 Indian languages. Nearly 100 million calls are being made on the platform daily worldwide.
