Gnome supposed to be default environment of Ubuntu. Isn't it?

GNOME is one of the oldest desktop environments. Up until Ubuntu 11.04, it was the default desktop environment for Ubuntu but then the Ubuntu developers created a new graphical desktop called Unity.
Unity was a new and modern looking desktop environment whereas GNOME was beginning to look old.

Bro unity is dead and Gnome is back. Check it on Web. Ubuntu Ceo said this few months ago.

They are shifting default Ubuntu desktop back to gnome ....for ubuntu 18.04 (LTS) which will ship in April 2018....

Ubuntu 17 Alpha 2 is coming with Gnome by default. I thought they will launch alpha 1 with Gnome also
