The ageing Maruti Gypsy is finally on its way out. Out of the Indian Army that is! The
Economic Times reports that the Army will soon be replacing the Maruti Gypsy with a new SUV from Tata Motors.

The Army has reportedly skipped on the Mahindra Group’s Scorpio SUV and gone in for the Tata Motors Safari Storme instead. The massive deal that will be announced soon, is said to hover around 3,200 vehicles in the initial order. The army could increase this order by 10-fold in the coming years.

Both vehicles have been through some tough trials by the Army and the Safari came out on top. The tests according to the same report included a number of conditions including high-altitude, snow, deserts and even marshy land.
Adding to the capabilities, Tata Motors is said to have also provided a better financial deal. The call for an new SUV came from the need for more safety features and power over existing Gypsy models that had begun to age.

Once the deal is official, Tata Motors will have successfully bagged its second deal after the Rs 1,300 crore truck deal that was given to the same automaker earlier this year.
