Sowing of kharif crops is in progress and sugarcane has been planted in 50.61 lakh hectare till date as compared to 48.63 lakh hectare at this point of time last year, reports received from different states say.
Cotton has been sown in 14.88 lakh hectare as compared to 11.55 lakh hectare last year. It represents an increase of about two lakh hectare over the last year's acreage.
Sowing of Jute and Mesta is also in progress.
A total of 8.35 lakh hectare has been covered under the cultivation of jute and mesta till date as against 7.32 lakh hectare last year.
Groundnut has been sown in 20,800 hectare so far.
