KANPUR: The special metropolitan magistrate of Kanpur on Monday took a strong view against heads of customer care units of Lucknow and Kanpur of a telecom giant and issued show-cause notices to them.

The court asked them why a penalty of Rs 31,000 and Rs 96,000 be not imposed on them and their cases pending in this court be rejected.

Magistrate JP Agarwal took this harsh step when he found that several cases were pending in the court and neither company nor their counsels were eager to get them disposed of. All the cases were 6 to 8 years old.

In another case involving Kali Prasad Tripathi and Mishra Constructions, the court ratified the compromise between the parties but imposed a fine of Rs 2,800 and asked the accused to deposit it in the court otherwise it would initiate attachment of property proceedings.

The matter was of Rs 28,000 in which Mishra Construction Company's cheque bounced and Tripathi filed a case. Sensing trouble, the construction company entered into a compromise with complainant. The court allowed them for compromise and imposed a fine.
