Samsung Galaxy S5 that was launched in
March this year at a price of Rs 51,500 is now
selling at an official price of Rs 34,900.

Though the Korean company has not officially
announced any price cut and there are
retailers -- both offline and online -- that
continue to sell the device at a price closer to
Rs 40,000, Samsung's official online store in
India is listing the device for Rs 34,000.

The Samsung Galaxy S5 4G aka the LTE
version which was launched at a price of Rs
53,500 has also received a price cut. It is now
selling for Rs 36,900.

The main difference between the 4G version
and the normal version of the galaxy S5, apart
from the support for LTE network, is the
processor. The LTE version uses Qualcomm
Snapdragon 801 processor running at 2.5GHz
while the non LTE version uses Exynos 5422
octa-core processor.

At the new prices, the Galaxy S5 looks
incredibly appealing. While Samsung's
Touchwiz users interface is something that not
everyone will like and the design of the phone
looks plasticky in front of devices like the Sony
Xperia Z3 and the new Moto X, the phone has
superb hardware and offers a lot of
functionality. Camera and screen in particular
are among the best ever seen in a
smartphone.

The Galaxy S5 runs Android 4.4 customised
with Samsung's Touchwiz user interface. It is
supposed to get Android Lollipop in the coming
months but for now there is no specific date
for the update.
