Designed for primary grade children, Bolo helps to improve their English & Hindi reading skills, by encouraging them to read aloud - just as they would naturally do - and giving them instant feedback - even when completely offline.

Bolo comes with a fun and helpful reading tutor, “Diya”, which is powered by the same speech technology that is in the Google Assistant.

According to Google India's Product Manager Bolo doesn't contain any ads nor does it collect any data of children.

Google Bolo now support more languages

Last year we launched Bolo, a speech-based app that helps children learn how to read -- today we’re adding Bangla, Marathi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu to it, and expanding our content pool by partnering with publishers like Chotta Bheem and Katha Kids. Bolo has already helped 800,000 young Indians read stories more than three million times and speak half a billion words. We are working with partners like Saajha, the Kaivalya Education Foundation, Pratham Education Foundation and Room to Read-- and looking forward to making it available to even more Indian families.

Kids can learn at home with Read Along by Google

With many students currently at home due to school closures, families around the globe are looking for ways to help children grow their reading skills. To support families, today we're sharing early access to Read Along by Google. It’s an Android app for children 5+ years old that helps them learn to read by giving verbal and visual feedback as they read stories out loud.

Read Along uses Google's speech recognition technology to help develop literacy skills, and first launched in India (where it is available as “Bolo”). After receiving encouraging feedback from parents, we’re excited to share this app with more young learners around the globe.

Read Along is now available in over 180 countries and in nine languages including English, Spanish, Portuguese and Hindi. Read Along will continue to improve as we receive feedback from families, expanding the selection of books and adding more features.

Read Along has been an Android app so far, and to make it accessible to more users, we have launched the public beta of the website version. The website contains the same magic: Diya’s help and hundreds of well illustrated stories across several languages.

With the web version, parents can let their children use Read Along on bigger screens by simply logging into a browser from laptops or PCs at readalong.google.com. Just like the Android app, all the speech recognition happens in the browser so children’s voice data remains private and we do not send it to any servers.
