Delhi BJP has asked the city government to postpone the implementation of the second phase its odd-even scheme by a month to May 15-30. Delhi government should change the trial period from later half of April to the later half of May when most educational institutes will be closed, Delhi BJP president Satish Upadhyay said.

The odd-even scheme trial implemented in January “did not” help reduce pollution in the city but since the government is “insistent” on its re-trial, it should at least offer solutions to problems of people, he said. “Over 25 per cent school children travel by private vehicles and government has no plan as to how to give relief to those driving vehicles to drop and pick up students from their schools,” he claimed. Cars driven by women and those carrying children in school uniform shall remain out of the ambit of the odd-even scheme.

The governemnt has said that it is still working on the modalities regarding to picking up and dropping off of school children and the final notification in this regard will be out soon. The later half of April has many competitive examinations and implementation of the scheme from April 15 will pose problems before the students, the BJP Delhi chief said.
