Nokia has finally introduced the latest version of the Symbian mobile operating system – Symbian Belle – four short months after it introduced the world to Symbian Anna. According to Nokia, Symbian Belle “looks and works better than ever before,” and as for its aesthetics, we’ll have to agree with Nokia. You’ll have to wait till we get some hands-on time with a Symbian Belle device for our impressions about its performance.
Interestingly, the Belle update is not meant only for the two hitherto released Symbian Anna devices (the X7-00 and E6, excluding the unreleased Nokia 500), but also for the first generation of Symbian^3 phones – the N8, E7, C7, and C6-01. Newly shipped versions of all six above mentioned models will now come with Symbian Belle pre-installed.
Those looking to download the update right away, will have to wait for a while till its released – or in the meanwhile, enjoy the Symbian Anna update if you haven’t already installed it, which is already available. To read more about the three new Symbian Belle phones announced - Nokia 700, 701, and 600, read our previous coverage.
Nokia has helpfully introduced Symbian Belle as an improvement upon Anna, taking its design philosophy forward. This extends from new widgets to support for NFC functionality. Check out a more comprehensive list of features below, along with a video preview of Symbian Belle in action on the Nokia 700.
