Nikon has launched the Nikon D3200, the successor to the popular Nikon D3100. Bearing a 24.2MP DX-format CMOS sensor, and powered by the EXPEED 3TM image processing engine, the Nikon D3200 is called a HD-SLR by the company, offering 1080p HD video recording (30 fps) with full time autofocus.

Meant to the first step in the upgrade ladder for beginners and compact digital camera users, the Nikon D3200 comes with the company’s Guide Mode for easy instructions on how to handle its many features. For those with a more advanced skill level, Guide Mode offers Assist Images, giving visual references to inspire users and illustrate the desired result.

The Nikon D3200 has a native ISO range of 100 to 6400, which can be boosted to ISO 12,800. The Nikon D3200 bears an advanced 11-point AF system, and a 3D Color Matrix Metering II, apart from a Scene Recognition system, that can switch Portrait, Landscape, Child, Sports, Close-Up or Night Portrait. The D3200 has a 3-inch, 921K-dot LCD screen, and a HDMI-out port

Another USP of the device is its wireless connectivity feature for mobile devices, when using Nikon’s new WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter. This allows Nikon D3200 users to wireless transfer photos to their Android smartphone or tablet, preview the image, and remote control the camera. The Android app, meant for Android 2.3 or higher phones and Android 3 or higher tablets, will be released in May. An iOS app is also in development.

The Nikon D3200 will be bundled with the AF-S DX NIKKOR 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G VR image stabilization lens, and will be available in late April 2012 for a suggested retail price $699.95 (roughly Rs. 37,000). It will come in Black or Red colours.

The optional WU-1a Wireless Mobile Adapter, sold separately, will be available in late May 2012 for a suggested retail price of $59.95. For more information on the Nikon D3200, NIKKOR lenses, additional Nikon D-SLR cameras and accessories, please visit nikonusa.com.
