A new blood group has been found in India. The blood samples taken in a laboratory in Gujarat are found to be absolutely unique. The blood cannot be categorized in the existing groups of ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘O’ or ‘AB’. The blood sample has been named by the doctors as ‘INRA’. While the first two letters stand India, the latter two letters indicate the name of the person who was found with this unique blood sample.
According to a Dainik Bhaskar report , the blood samples have been certified by the World Health Organization (WHO).
The blood sample was first tested at Surat’s
Lok Samparn Raktdan laboratory. It was tested by a team of doctors comprising of Dr Sanmukh Joshi, Dr Kinjal Mendpara and Dr Ankit Sheldiya. The blood report ended up shocking the trio. The sample was later forwarded to the WHO lab, which has validated the fact that it is a unique blood sample, the Dainik Bhaskar report claims.
The blood groups of humans are classified in the four categories of A, B, O, AB. The unique blood sample has left the medical fraternity of Surat in shock. The doctors are also conducting the blood test of the family members of the person who was found with the unique blood sample, now termed as INRA.
Important to note is that the person with the unique blood sample could neither donate he blood to anyone, nor could his body accept blood of any other sample. Doctors have described the condition of the person as among the seven people found in the world who have a unique blood sample, not matching with any other group. Dr Sanmukh Joshi says that such persons are included under the medical term known as ‘COLTOL’. Apart from these rare 7 sample of bloods, there is also one ‘Bombay’ blood group, whose members are stated to be 1 in 7,000.
