At least 15 people were killed and around 30 were injured in a stampede at Elphinstone railway station's foot-over bridge in Mumbai on Friday.

As per a report, the stampede took place over rumours that the foot-over bridge at the Elphinstone railway station has collapsed. A large number of people were present at the railway station due to heavy downpour in the city.

Mumbai railway station stampede: Know what led to the mishap

Sad News :verysad:
The Number of people killed is quite high. :wall:  Did some people thought the bridge was collapsing and tried to jump out ?

Again this incident prove that india dont want bullet train , want security , if this all money spend on RELAIWAYS DEVELOPMENT then it ia good thing. VERY SAD NEWS . dont know when this type of oncident stops

Responsibility should be fixed, heads should roll. But won't happen as usual, "Mumbai spirit!!", "Aamchi Mumbai!!"...and all crap dialogues. No one has the time to hold someone responsible, and the worst part is Mumbai public also don't give a flying Duck! "Yaha time kiske pass hai" (Traslation: who has the time?)

By same logic then India does not need to spend money on airport and Metro projects in different cities also after all what percent of Indians will use them and most importantly less than 4 crore people use Railway so why should govt spend on railway when there are 130 crore people depends on highway and there are more people dies on highway than in railway ? less than 25 % goods traffic railway carries so there is no point on spending huge money on railway when aam admi depends on highway for their daily needs.

May be or they thought that there is some elctrical sparking which causes people to start running, this is one example what rumours can do and we should learn from it

SO RAILWAY DONT NEED IMPROVEMENT ??? If u see the bridge it is very small , and one of the Mp written letter to railway mini. But they replys that " there is no fund available to construct new big bridge " ACCORDING AAJ TAK n poor and middle class and poor people use railway , today 22 people dead so who take there responsibility

Doesn't lower or middle class use road according to you ? Just compared 4 crore railway passengers compared to 130 crore road passengers. 410 people die everyday on Indian road, how many death happen everyday on Indian railway ? Who will take the responsibility of 410 people who die everyday on road ? If Govt should not build new high speed train then the same govt should not invest on railway as only 3% Indian uses Railway. Majority Indians use roads so roads should be priority instead of Railway.

Your argument is totally wrong regarding bullet train, you said money spend on bullet train should be invested on current railway tracks but what you are not understanding is that the whole project is built using Loan money which cannot be diverted to different project even congress also knows it when they raise it, can you buy a car by taking a homeloan which has low interest compared to car loan ? You cannot . so it's just a political statement.

Another issue is what i raise, if giving safety to passengers is top priority then govt should not built airports, metro trains, monorails and invest on railway itself and waste money as majority death happens on Roads and not on railway tracks or in air crash.

410 people died on Indian roads every day last year - Times of India
