MIB directs broadcasters to carry ticker about DD Sports during live coverage of key sporting events
MUMBAI: In a controversial move, the ministry of information and broadcasting (MIB) has directed broadcasters to run a ticker during live coverage of sporting events of national importance that the event can also be viewed on DD Sports channel.
All channels broadcasting live sports events of national importance have to display a ticker stating, ‘This match/ game can also be viewed on DD Sports channel on DD Free Dish DTH and DD’s terrestrial network on free-to-air basis’.

Nothing wrong with it .there are a lot of people who cannot afford even basic necessities and educating them that a cheaper alternative is available for something is a good step .

Those people don't have dth and don't watch it on private channels anyway.
This move is just to annoy the broadcaster!

During the last India' Cricket tour to SA, all the DTH operators blocked DD Sport signal after obtaining a Court Order. Thus DTH customers were forced to subscribe to Star Sport channels and deprived of watching it for free on DD Sports. I think the discretion of watching any programme on any channel of their choice should be left to the viewer exclusively.

Star/Sony Sports channels are not available in DDFD.

DD Sports will be blocked in private DTH during live match.

Why do anyone who watches live match on private channels buy DDFD just for the sake of watching live sports.

What's controversial in it ?

MIB can't force a private operator to promote its own channel.
MIB could have paid some money just like other parties to promote its channel.

I feel DD Sports should be blocked during any shared broadcast, because these broadcasts on DD are only for DD freedish and Terrestrial, For Pay TV, rights are already bought by private broadcasters, while DD gets them for free...
