Only 50 items to stay in 28% GST tax bracket. Currently there are 277 items in the highest slab. Tax rate on 13 items reduced from 18 pc to 12 pc; on 5 it has been cut to 5 pc from 18 pc; rate on 6 items lowered to zero from 5 pc, says FM. GST Council cut rate for restaurants to 5% without ITC (outside of 5 stars)

GST Council cuts taxes on about 175 items from 28%, only 50 luxury and 'sin' goods like tobacco to remain in highest slab. The tax cuts will have a revenue implication of about Rs 20,000 crore..

See Post# 14 for full details..

Now this is the Govt that works, after getting to know what people need and want, they are following it up with new rates.
More adjustments will be done in future w.r.t fuel and real estate hopefully

I think after Gujarat election may withdraw the decision, also showing this much loss to government

Its not easy to keep changing GST rates every now and then. Let's wait and watch as both centre and states have to vote and majority votes decide the changes

Centre has 1/3 whereas states has 2/3 voting power in all powerful GST council, and to make any changes everything has to be passed with 3/4 majority in council. That's how democracy works. So if it withdraw after Gujarat election then the responsibility is also on all non BJP parties who are in power in many states as they have voted in favour for that changes in GST council

Its definitely not an election decision.
All decisions of GST council are taken by unanimity.
All states have equal representation.
And there are non bjp states also.

Which 2/3 are we discussing here and who are those non-BJP parties which constitute those 2/3rd voting power? From the map it looks like close to 2/3rd of the states will support any move especially TN, this was clearly evident during the President and VP election.
